I've wondered this myself and have been tempted. In fact, I don't think I've heard any Steve Reich sampled which is surprising since a lot of it would make great loops. My guess is that perhaps he and/or Columbia or Nonesuch (his labels) have refused clearance. I'm just guessing, anyone have any facts on why Reich hasn't been sampled? Well, it's old news, but there is the Orb's "Little Fluffy Clouds," which uses a snippet of "Electric Counterpoint." (A curious feature: Reich's 12/8 measures are transformed into 4/4 by repeating the last 4 notes of each measure (12 original notes + 4 repeated --> 16 16th-notes).) Someone has done it.. can't remember the track name, but it was some house track on a Doc Martin mixed tape from about 2 years back. Sounded pretty good from what I remember, with the "Come out.." loop repeated. I just saw the Steve Reich 10-CD boxset used for about $50. Is it worth picking up (as I've never heard any of his stuff before) or would it be a better introduction/more economical to buy one or two of his important releases? Are his important ones In C (or was that by terry riley?), Music for 18 Musicians, Drumming, Four Organs, it's Gonna rain? Are there any major omissions/flaws in the box set? Botttom line is, i want to hear the innovators, and $50 for 10 Cds is a good deal, but still a large chunk of change for one unheard artist. All opinions appreciated. Sam
