I finally have the full info on the new Warp RDJ release.
Be Afraid, be Very Afraid.
o It is limited to 3000 copies worldwide (1000 reserved for UK).
o It is 12" vinyl only.
o It is not likely to be licensed by Sire. So only available as import in US.
o It will appear in shops at very short notice. No 3 week pre-sales buy
period for stores.
The reason for it's limited release... Well it just gives it that extra bit
of mystique. This one's for RDJ fans only. Advice from WARP: "If you want a
copy go to your local store now. Give them the details. Tell them to buy all
the copies they are offered!!"
Hype or no hype? It's too wild for most, so give it to those who will
appreciate it most is their philosophy I think. If you want it, you'll get
it. btw. It is released as 'AFX'. Dunno if it will have artwork, my copy is
white label with track names etched on it.

What can I say?? Absolute tour de force of fucked up beats, melody etc. This
is jungle re-written by RDJ with no compromise. Those still reeling from his
Wagon Christ _Spotlight_ remix on the 'Redone EP', will appreciate this,
those who thought the redone remix was a bit OTT will like this. It is just
one of those instant love love things, like Plug 1. The tracks are all
'junglesque' if you like but deconsructed like you've never heard.
Track 1, _Mashed Taydeez_ (which is where MM got his title from), uses a mad
sample some kid saying "Mashed Potatoes" and some BBC correspandant type
replying "'Mashed Potatoes'? Why do you say mashed potatoes?" This is cut up
speed up slown down, everything, whilst jungle stuff explodes around it,
thudding bass, nice stringy bits, bells, fuck it the whole lot's in there.
_Hangable Auto Bulb_, more standard jungle noise (Re plug 1 /Android), but
this is AFX jungle, a trumpet thingy builds up slowly, whoah in comes the
sub bass, echoing the trumpet, bang it all goes ballistic, with percusion.
It then goes all dark and echoey, brooding, backwards basslines etc. [I
really am speechless. I have never heard anything like this.] The trumpet
things come back, but they're now well fucked up, distant, half hearted...
Woah side 1 over [writing this in real time as I listen for first time solid]
_Laughable Butane Bob_, jeez no letting up, standard jungle elements whoah
straight in with the crazy AFX droning bass melody thing, things get
constricted a bit, then wham back with the melody thing [I don't know what
you call it], shit then everything goes in mental bit. Fades out to _Bit_
which is a bit really.
_Custodian discount_. Trumpet strings are back, subbassy bass stabs, jungle
percussion, loops for a bit, more trumpety strings (reminds me if anything
of a jungle version Terrace's _Pulling the strings_ (Djax):)]. Trumpet
strings drop jungle bits go all backwards, everythingback... builds...
loops... drops...
Jungle never stops, a nice ringing tapping sound, the most crazy organ
melodramatic cheezy organ sound looping in the background. But it sounds
awesome of course. Organ noise breaks down, deconstructs, filtered bits.
Then breaks to almost a different track with the maddest rythyms, [jesus,
what is that], sounds like a cross between a steel drum and someone playing
a glass filled with water or something.
This is RDJ at his very best, freeform, wildstyle everything in everything
out. Jungle has a future? Not any more, RDJ just stole it in 5 tracks,
blowing away everythng that went before.
Ahem. Well err I kind of like this record.
It does raise the question of RDJ involvement in the Plug's. They are kinda
similar. But this has his definitive stamp.
I'm gonna go and flip it over.
