i seem to always be causing trouble regarding things like this but a lot of it has to do with race. i am sure asking for it, i know...but detroit is a black city, after all, and the music reflects this. stripped down existence = stripped down music. also, dont forget about the _soul_ aspect... idm is, on the other hand, a predominantly white phenomenon from europe...and comes from an entirely different set of MATERIAL and CULTURAL conditions... now remember that in these cases "black" and "white" mean a certain set cultural codes which certain people IDENTIFY with...i dont mean to generalize. ++ e d e l e m e n t a l

Uh yeah, must be. Let's don't ferget that Bob Segar (one of the BS brothers, along w/ Bruce Springsteen) is from them parts too. No wonder his truck commercials have so much stripped down "soul". Funny, I don't remember any stripped down MoTown stuff either. I think yer way out on a limb, guy.

No, she's from Rochester. Socially and culturally speaking, there's an immense difference. -d.w., who lives closer to Rochester than he'd like. PS: Bob Seger is from Ann Arbor. See above. ObIDM: Juan Atkins is from Belleville. But that's different. :)

So is Mark Gage (Vapourspace). ObIDM: Stay tuned next week, for my review of Scanner, Legion of Green Men live in Toronto, and I'm hoping and still working on getting an interview with Scanner, (Robin something, I can't think of his name.) Phil Onnow: TEEX2 Disc 1 (Needed some Speedy J)

Belleville??!?! We must *not* be talking about Belleville, Ontario. If we are, the universe is a much different place then I previously imagined. jay ______________________________________________________________________________ Jason W. Mark is from Rochester _NEW_YORK_, not Rochester MI. ;) and yesterday I drove through Paris, Michigan, too. (really!) Didn't see that tower everyone keeps talking about, either. :) on now: Dave Angel -- In Flight Entertainment _________________________________________________________________________ Matt MacQueen -- multimedia production -- human interface, CD-ROM, Web <macqueen@student.msu.edu> -- aural nukes in the mix _________________________________________________________________________

Yeah, right! Seems to me like you were discussing birthplaces of technotypes (*boring* subject) rather than techno per se. Oyvers
