(Acidwarp blab is re a thread on ambient@hyperreal. I felt compelled to add something ontopic and then felt like I should send it to idm as well. Sorry if this irritates anyone.) Just wanted to say: If anyone needs this file (acidwarp) by way of mail, I keep it on red alert at all times. As an added bonus, if you mail me with 'sendacidwarp' in the subject line, I won't lose your message. :) btw, I have v 4.06, or 40.6, or something. Is this current? I CARE BECAUSE YOU DO --------------------- Wonderful album, almost every bit as nice as SAW2 and honestly not all that much more unfriendly or ugly. Mr. James' sound creation and dance esthetic aside, the man is bvlazing trails *musically*. There are songs on here that could be performed on a piano or by a small ensemble and would still be brilliant. Rhythmically, I must admit that more and more often I cannot keep track of the bastard. Nevertheless, this album, along with its companion singles, is sooper funky. It seriously rocks in ways that were up until alien to me. I don't remember the last time I thought a great album was this damned weird--the last time I was completely taken aback so many times in the space of one record, and yes, I am a hopeless audax fiend. I think SAW2 is the best album of last year and the best ambient *ever*. What's on this album wouldn't be my cup of tea, actually, if it weren't do godawful damned GOOD. One of many reasons why, despite Evolution, Warp is the coolest record label in the history of the world. And this is the best idm at least since Virtual State if not since Orbital 2 or even Bytes. Highest recommendation. einexile ps - The artwork is horrifying. Maybe he's a genius there too but I can't make myself look at it long enough to tell for certain. pps - Yes, that is the Brady Cabal you're hearing. ppps - Is that a rooster on track eight??

Wey Hey! Some one else who liked Virtual State. 's dead good. New one is similar, but funkier, with Vibert-u-like bass strings, jazzy bit etc. And annoying 'hey I went to Goa' Indian samples...

Exactly. To quote from Blackadder: Baldrick:"What's irony? Blackadder:"Well, it's like Steely, only harder..." [Stage dir:] Blackadder hits Baldrick with iron pan. greg The Official WARP Web Site 3 0 3 http://www.ncl.ac.uk/~n264671/wap-indx.html

Call me crazy, but does anyone else out there think that this album was all just a big joke for the guy? It is really cool, but everything points to the album being just a big chuckle. The cover art is just terrible. That picture is uglier than he is and the writing and disc print looks like garbage too. Add to that some of the songs are four years old. "Slags" has a beat that sounds like the Cha-Cha (though totally kickass), along with two girls talking about a coming out party. Where the hell did he get that? You can't listen without laughing. I'd be willing to bet he was just trying to see how much garbage he could get away with, provided there were some cool tunes on it. The cover almost looks like he's laughing at you for buying the thing. Then again, the cover art is still better than that cheesy, prism/hologram-type cover on the all-too-resistable force's latest. That looks like the stickers my brother used to put on his BMX bike. I must admit some of the songs, with that haunted orchestral sound hit new lows of downright scariness. Though I don't like everything he's put out, I think this one is just peachy, even if it is really hoaky. BTW-Does anyone know anywhere I can pick up some really "up" (danceable) FAX stuff. I like a lot of Namlook's ambient stuff, but his trance/hardcore stuff is straight from the planet "Whut it iz." I read that he's not going to do that stuff anymore, but I wish I could get a hold of the old stuff. I'd love to get my mits on Escape (hint, hint). I just wish Instict had enough brains to release a "real" FAX compilation. Those of you who own one know what I'm talking about. I think that label has got ambient on the brain. How about some trance, fellas? I don't feel like going to sleep. Mistess ov What's Happenin'

Do you have to get your trance fix from Instinct or FAX. Why don't you go out when not sleeping and get some trance from other labels, e.g. Rising High... so you can have your 'real' music. Mohsen

All the U.S. Rising High is released on Instinct. I also have a couple of Rising High imports. That's the problem, boy. You have to spend mucho dollars on imports because other than about 2 releases a year, Instinct has all but given up on trance. Just look at the difference between Plug In and Turn on 1 and 2. Get my drift? Good trance is very difficult to get these days. I'll let you know when I wake up, whether anything changes. PS-I'm still looking for GOOD advice. Mistress ov Disappointment

The best thing to do is to stay away(far away) from the Rising High-licensed stuff on Instinct. IMO, They have completely screwed up the label for American listeners You want straightforward trance? There are many labels that come to mind (unfortunately, no too many in 'merika) Rising High, Touche(Belgian), Juice Records(Austrailia), and of course Harthouse/Eye-Q for more of a hypno-acid-trance workout on your ears. For stateside stuff, look to nearly any artist in the Bay area. My faves are Hardkiss Records & groups like God Within, Hawke & others. What is YOUR idea of trance? What machines/sounds do you like? Maybe I could direct you better if I knew that... Derek Jordan

My apologies to Mohsen. I'm a bit crabby today and I shouldn't have been so biting in my comments (I'm also very tired, and as such, didn't read the post as well as I should have taking it as a slam. I think I'm paranoid). Call be a bitch, you won't be the first.. Anyway, I'm just frustrated with the lack of good trance available these days. Is it me, or do I sense a dry spell in terms of good trance? Mistress ov PMS

from following this list I would trust your judgement. I picked these things up with "trance" in the title: - psychotrance - gets good around track 6, its pretty good for several more tracks, then tames down. - psychotrance 2 - I'm still looking for a track that picks me up and takes me to a real good feel peak, can't seem to find it. - trance lunar paradise - by dave angel, although I've read 2 good recommendations for this I've only found a good spot near the end of disc 2, and each disc is just one big track. that doc martin flamable cd has a nice deep sorta slow beat towards the middle that i've just about worn out, but I guess that's more housey. what about some good older trance recommendations that i can add to my collection?

do you have a record player? Reload records, Platupus records, Sabrettes (some techno, some trance), some Peacefrog could be trance... mikebee
