I was surprised to see Trance Europe Express (TEX) in HMV last Friday here
in Sydney (yes, Olympic city 2000 (groan) in Australia) for A$40 (about
US$30) (UK import). I bought it straight away on the basis of the contents
and the rave reviews here on IDM but have only managed to listen to half
the first disc due to a busy long weekend and difficult flatmates %^(. The
contents so far is excellent. The price is also good considering new local
discs here are around A$30, so two discs AND a book on import for A$40 is
just dandy.
I was actually in the shop buying the "Everglade" four-track EP from Mystic
Force, on the local Australian label Psy Harmonics, based in Melbourne.
This is a label started by a guy called Ollie Olsen, who had been dabbling
in electronic music for ages. His own band is Third Eye but has partnered
with Michael Hutchence from (yawn) INXS in a project called Max Q. I don't
know if they released anything in the US and no, I didn't like it much
either. He is now supporting and assisting local electronic music. A
previous posting here from my musical associate Mark had a list of stuff
they've released. Very nice. At least have a listen if you see any of them.
