Musical Heritage 'o mine (can't resist)
Pre-through-Elementary School:
Basically pop radio station music, whatever was popular at the time.
Jr. High:
My first really serious interest, starting to collect vinyl. Bobby
Brown and New Edition were favorites, pushing into some more straight
R&B (i became a Video Soul/Vibrations junkie)
High School:
Just before high school became interested in the rap of the day: Big
Daddy Kane, Doug E' Fresh, BDP, Schooly D, DizMarkie, and i even dig
some of the old Whodini. So basically at that time all i listened to
was R & B, rap. Then my cousin beat me over the head with a club and
showed me some `white' music wasn't that bad. True he listened to
mostly crap, but there was some good stuff, and it opened my mind.
By my senior year i was basically still in the same mode, R & B,
rap, and some leanings into rock and such music
That last year, my brother was listening to some music called
`Techno' and industrial dance that was cool, and i got to like some of
it. In particular MeatBeat Manifesto, and this one song by Shut Up and
Dance called `Green Man'.
College: Basically limited to this crazy dance music we listen too,
and the collection of which has gotten more serious since started
collecting vinyl once again. But at then same time a desire to learn
more about the various musical types that are out there. I really like
the Smiths and there is a lot of good jazz and old rockabilly that can
cause you to shake your booty. Id like to hear more alternative music,
but rock n' roll music (overgeneralization basically usage of guitar,
and more woried about melody over rhythm) i havent listened to much.
But an open ear i try and keep.
