I think the main theme from Carpenter's Escape from New York is still amazing:

It's got a great tension and well it probably is a cornerstone of a
futuristic sound with which most of us grew up; it actually shaped our
imaginary more than we can consciously acknowledge.
It was composed by Carpenter himself AFAIK and it's from 1981 when i
was still too young to play with the Commodore Vic 20
