guitars are a big problem -- too fragile to check, too big for
overheads. You could call ahead to the airlines and see if they'll let
you stuff the guitar in their in-cabin closet where they hang garment
bags for people.
You might also consider A) shipping stuff ahead and B) borrowing or
renting locally once you're there.
