Whether you call it IDM or not (let's just fucking accept it now, the
genre debate has gone on too long) I just like any music that is thought
provoking. Whether it's Stockhausen, Cage, AFX, Plaid or even Super
Furry Animals, if it makes my brain work in a way that pleases me, I'm
happy.
I am about to start another topic here:
IDM: Let's keep those three letters but instead of Intelligent Dance
Music, call it something else.
Like: Interestingly Devised Music
Or something....

Subject: [idm] IDM Therefore I Am
I assume it's been a while since a topic such as this has been started,
so I
figured i'd spark one up again.
Why exactly do you like IDM?
Personally, I am attracted to the creativity of IDM musicians and the
music
that results from it. They tend to try new things and innovate in ways
traditional musicians can't. In a sense, the studio has become their
instrument of choice. IDM tends to have a sound that evokes emotions and
mood unlike other forms of music. Coupled with some headphones and a
relaxing night, IDM just kind of takes me places. You never know what to
expect.
Just wondering... :]
