'Oops I did it again' is memorable. The advert for Pot Noodle is memorable. A chronic diarrhoea attack is memorable. So memorable might be viewed as = bad in some cases. Clearly, 'memorable' is not inherently a '+' or '-' term, but one whose connotative meaning can only be resolved by context. One might say that the context of IDM is one which does not typically trade on memorability as a criterion for goodness. But then again, we have seen that some IDM-ophiles clearly like their IDM to be memorable to qualify as 'good', or at least a deficit in memorability can be legitimately raised as a defect. But memorability is not a *sufficient* condition for goodness, *necessary* though it might be seen by some. So, er... in summary, what I wanted to say was... uh... No. ;-) alan ---------------------- Alan Lockett (Senior Language Co-ordinator - EFL) Language Centre, University of Bristol, 30-32 Tyndall's Park Road, Bristol, BS8 1PY, UK tel: +44 (0)117 3310914 e-mail: Alan.R.Lockett@bristol.ac.uk --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
