I'll tell ya- those Infinite Complexity kids know how to throw a party. The Little Temple was PACKED as I showed up mid-way into Daedalus' set. Good funky boomy stuff from him. Sometimes he's hit or miss. Tonight he was hit. Next up was Busdriver. I'm no fan of hip hop or rap, but the crowd was diggin' it and dancing the whole time. Edit had his shit goin'. Thunderous lows, grainy, square-wavey melodies, some glitchy fuckery like the best of Funkstorung's idm stuff. All very head-noddy. It would be nice to hear something a bit more up-tempo, more driving from him. Richard Devine didn't destroy his laptop like he did his keyboard the weekend prior (I kid you not- last weekend at the end of his set he lit his keyboard on fire ala Jimi Hendrix and then smashed it to bits with a baseball bat ala Pete Townsend smashing his guitar- total rock star and I loved it!). Richie seems to be turning over a new leaf or two and I can't say I'm all too excited about it. All of the techno he does these days has been done better by Surgeon and Starfish Pool numerous times. His gabber stuff doesn't come close to Kid 606's. He tried some hardcore jungle type stuff with the hyper-spastic drummer like so many VSnares songs. I certainly don't need to hear Richie try run-of-the-mill drum n bass. And it sure would be nice if he even attempted to throw in a melody or bass line and not just think that an hour and twenty minutes of drum loops is gonna impress everybody in the crowd. But with all that said, still a great party with much dancing. Lookin' forward to the next. www.infinitecomplexity.org ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OH SHIT - how sick were edIT and Devine? DAMN, son. YAY REPRESENT!
