i think of cleopatra as a decent reissues label who then takes those profits and
puts out crap. i think they made some pretty cool obscure punk, deathrock, and
related albums available on CD, but a lot of their "original" artists tended to be
very derivative.
IMHO, cleopatra is nearly singlehandedly responsible for the decline in quality
of goth and industrial in the 90's, with their stream of substandard releases,
ubiquitous advertising, and global influence. thay are a major reason why
everything was reduced to cheesiness easily sold at hot topic. goth as a genre
and style has never been more easily-defined or widely spread, but also never
more laughable. not to mention popularizing the eye of horus completely out of
context.
