Backups are insurance for digital materials, so your analogy holds as long as you don't refuse to talk about backups. ;)
Seriously though, this has been thought of already and sued out of existence in that it incurs the same royalty and fraud
problems that my.mp3.com famously "dealt" with. I don't doubt that something like this may exist in the future, but it's not
fair to begrudge Warp its absence.
