Sony has been like that for a while. They'd much rather develop a new
technology that has the chance of getting a foothold based on their name
alone (since their products will thus use their tech exclusively)
regardless of what else is on the market. It screws the consumers as tech
that doesn't take hold ends up forever in obsolescence. To me, MD's only
saving grace is the ability to record on the fly, such as at concerts or
whatever, but the other features are far surpassed by other electronics on
the market.
