I would prefer to think that gender is irrelevant, but there are plenty of women making IDM. Here are some of the names that come to mind:
Andrea Parker, Riz Maslen (Neotropic and Small Fish with Spine), Mira Calix, (sic) a.k.a. Squirrel Girl, Lektrogirl, Blectum from Blechdom (and their solo projects), Hecate, Ellen Allien, Tara Petterson (Autocreation), and Terre Taemlitz ;)
What I would like to see is less emphasis put on gender, or the fact that they are somebody's girlfriend Chantal (Mira Calix) Passamonte didn't need to be married to Sean Booth to make great music, and a lot of people have gone on and on about the fact that (sic) was ivolved with David Kristian and that Kevin Blechdom was Kid606's girlfriend.
I'm sure they weren't given their musical talents through divine insemination.

Yeh... me too, and I'm a woman. {{sigh}}
Another one to check out is Leila - although I've heard precious
little from or about her for years. She did an excellent album
titled "Like Weather" in '98 and the great single 'Don't Fall Asleep'
was included on Rephlex's Braindance comp. She was born in Iran,
which makes for quite interesting IDM background.
