Mail order SPECIAL OFFERS + COMPETITION 5. Forthcoming Leaf events worldwide 6. Office playlist 7. Unsubscribe info 1. RIOW ARAI - Disturbance EP 12² only / DOCK 39 / UPC 0666017067162 / mail order price: 4.00 UKP (+p&p) Release date: Monday September 29 2003 artist website: http://www.riowarai.com for mail order, real audio samples and further info, go to: http://www.posteverything.com/artists/release.php?id=3610 The Disturbance EP is Japanese producer Riow Arai¹s first ever release outside Japan. A ŒGreatest Hits¹ package of sorts, the EP draws from Arai¹s extensive catalogue of twisted instrumental hiphop on the cult Japanese Soup-Disk label. The five DJ friendly cuts include two re-edits of tracks from the forthcoming Mind Edit album, and three from a selection of previous Japanese releases, stretching back to 1998. This is hiphop like you've never heard before, masterfully crafted, incredibly fresh and quite unique. Riow¹s got the funk, and he¹s bringing it to y¹all in spades. Riow Arai made his debut in 1995, and has released four albums since, with a new Japanese release to come later this year. He has created soundtracks for Playstation games, played in Japan with Matthew Herbert, Hexstatic, Four Tet and Skam Records, and produced numerous Japanese artists, including Mego¹s Tujiko Noriko. Nobukazu Takemura described his second album as ³unmistakably the best Japanese dancefloor record of the year². A1. Break Roads (re-edit) A2. Eclipse A3. Gift B1. Wandering B2. Disturbance (re-edit) "When you¹ve got the likes of Jonathan More, Si Begg and John Peel singing your praises you know you must be doing something right, and in this instance we can only concur. This is great stuff. Like Primo, Akufen, Prefuse 73 and Dabrye knocking heads for a finely tuned foray into low slung instrumental hip hop and twisted downbeat machine funk. Excellent" **** DJ ³Strong, grimy and minimal with lots of character² Mr Scruff ³Unspeakably good and sublime pick-up for the patently brilliant Leaf. I have a few older things by RA so this is a breath of fresh air. Sounds like the love children of Krush and DJ Shadow² Disastronaut 2.
