i finally had the opportunity to finally see speedy j live at an afterparty at the detroit music fest this year. granted what he was doing wasn't mindblowingly new, but devastatingly effective on the dance floor. most of his set probably consisted of really long buildups with only short amounts of release provided by massive kickdrums that pummel you senseless. i can see how loudboxer is boring for home listening, but played loud as hell in a dark room of full people going completely nuts, it's a totally different experience. he also has a recent release on novamute called tanga - if you liked bugmod or krekc it'll likely be right up your alley. for other harder techno recommendations - there's mark broom, who's always rocked it, and up-and comer christian wunsch who kicks on on just about anything he releases. shufflemaster always keeps the shit interesting too.
