as far as chicago goes, it could come down to anything. following the thread
that's been bulidng on this subject, you can promote the hell out of a show
and even have a decent following but for whatever reason it might not be the
turnout you expect. performances that occur on a weekday often suffer but if
30+ people can show up and have fun then it's all good.
as part of an a/v collective, we helped organize a show at the empty bottle
on a thursday in july last year, only 46 people showed but more than half
stayed the whole night for ambient soundscape noise beat acts and were
dancing by the end of the night. which for a venue like the empty bottle
(for which i always have a soft spot for) was a pretty decent achievement.
it all comes down to what kind of show one would consider a "success"....
