I can't say I'm dissappointed with the new Autechre album (certainly not the way I was with Confield), but a better word to use would be 'underwhelmed.'
In listening to previous Ae albums, they started souring with me after LP5 because from that point on (FOR THE MOST PART, GENERALLY SPEAKING), the songs became more linear and didn't take the twists and turns of the earlier stuff. Also, they became much less melodic. Also the layers of sounds and textures remain rather constant or static and is simply not as exciting to listen to. The track on the new ATP comp is a good example of that- one feel, one groove, a single theme that loops for six and a half minutes. Whoever it was who suggested that that track was one of their most gorgeous must not have heard Flutter or Cichli or Puch.
