Don't know Milwaukee scene, but I'd investigate both Madison and Chicago.
The Smartbar in Chicago has all sorts of electronic events, that tilt
towards house/techno but occasionally features more experimental artists.
It's downstairs from the Metro, which is a theater that regularly books
interesting shows.
