Well, although I currently do not partake, I have a lysergically stained
past. LSD is non-toxic and theoretically should not kill you - although
that is more than a whale-dose. I would imagine Huxley had connections for
pharmaceutical grade acid; what usually presents problems is shoddy
manufacturing which results in an LSD that is sort of a "rough fit" into
the body's receptors, producing some of the less desirable fringe benefits.
At least that's the way I had it explained to me by someone with a Ph.D in
chemistry.
Still, Aldous must have been serious about it. I think dosages start around
50 mics (although I have done as much as 2000 + in one sitting - but that
was when the grade was pretty good. I'm probably older than the average
lister :-).
