I would say they were two of my favorite releases this past year.
*Shuttle 358's "Understanding Wildlife" - Beautifully crafted glich/ambient
in the tradition of Brian Eno's ambient works and Aphex Twin's "Selected
Ambient Works Vol II". One of the best ambient records to come out since
Dettinger's "Intershop".
*Murcof's "Martes" - Murcof stands at the the forefront of a new breed of
electronic music composer. Fusing rich organic string arrangements and
subtle piano textures with overtly synthetic rhythms, Murcof is helping
close the gap between modern classical music and techno. Other artists I
would place into this catagory of "Neo-Classicalist" would be Digitonal, and
Bola.
Both releases made my top ten list this year.
