I'm pretty much with you on this one. A couple of really good industrial
bands turned me onto the electronic elements of music. Einsturzende
Neubauten, Skinny Puppy, Lard, Laibach, mainly. Laibach's NATO album is such
a rad blend of industrial, choral singing, classical and techno. One of my
all time favorite records.
But going way back, I'd have to say Rudimentary Peni was probably the one
band that changed my musical likings. Listen to EPs of RP, "tower of
strength". The whole album is great in my opinion. Compared to all the other
punk bands during that time, Peni was 10 steps ahead.

for the cure, i don't think any album can beat 'boys don't cry', though
'seventeen seconds' is a close second
i must admit i wore lots of black when i was 17
but i think this goth foundation - at least for me - influences my current
taste and preference for deep dark melodic experimental electronitica
and then this combined with some of the early and latter industrial acts
such as throbbing gristle, psychic tv, nitzer ebb, front 242, chris & cosey,
einsteurzende neubeuten (sp?), front line assembly, revolting cocks,
ministry...
