thats a pretty ignorant statement. while a fair number of people who play 'live' on laptops do nothing more than press play and throw some halfassed fliters on entire prerecorded songs (which is a load of shit btw), it is very possible to improvise using nothing more than a laptop. its naive to assume that since someone only has a laptop on stage that thy are definitely not doing anything. while playing with only a laptop certainly begs some sort of stimulation beyond that one piece of gear, be it visual or otherwise...a perfectly amazing live show can come out of a simple laptop _from the sonic standpoint_. one thing to think about when seeing a guy with only a laptop and little else on stage is the fact that alot of people making this sort of music are not rich...and travel can destroy gear like that. i made the mistake of bringing a fairly expensive piece of rackmount gear with me on tour once...and dispite my safeguarding and getting assurances that the case it was enclosed in was well tested for travel wear and tear...it came out of a baggage claim at one stop with the front of the case missing and the entire front of the piece of gear smashed in. now i really dont have the money to constantly be replacing that sort of thing so unfortunate as it may or may not be..sometimes a laptop and little else is the only option. c. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
