I think that's part of the appeal. Would you rather they just not include
the tracks at all?
To me, I get the impression that Mike and Marcus had the melodies, and just
though "you know, this is already really good, i don't wanna mess it up."
Sometimes you just come up with little things that sound really good, but
probably wouldn't work as songs. It's a lot easier to do with melodies
than rhythm. I'd rather hear those things and appreciate them for what
they are than not hear them at all.
I'm personally in love with "triangles and rhombuses;" I wish the melody
would just go on forever :D
On a technical note, almost all the melodies in songs are relatively simple
and drawn out, while the melody-snippets tend to be quite a bit more
complex. I personally think including them on the album was a great
decision, and really makes the album "sticky"
cheers,
