For the most part, people take much more interest when you go through the
work of getting your work on physical releases, whether it be creating
professional-looking EP's for your own "label," appearing on small
compilations, or other possibly well-produced physical music
objects. MP3's are a dime a dozen, and most people don't make a big deal
about some bits on their harddrives. People do usually care about a cd (or
vinyl) lying about their apartment.
