be forewarned that autechre's new album in fact bears little to no semblance to 99% of merzbow's material, and i personally don't even see much similarity between tribes of neurot and the new ae. (i haven't heard current value, so i can't compare) merzbow is noise. in the truest sense. practically everything i have by merzbow is ear-splitting feedback, overproduced, supersaturated waves of sound. personally i really like it although i don't find myself putting it on very regularly, or going out to purchase the new merzbow release of the week. tribes of neurot have some things in common with the newer ae in its roughest spots (like perhaps the last track, minus the bouncing ball), albeit a more acoustically arranged group ("real" instruments). however, i think it's a bit of a stretch as i found the new ae to be more ambient than aggressive..... but then again i'm halfway glued to the first track ;-) i may be off-base because the last tribes record i heard was the split with walking time bombs some years ago... in any case, i don't think that these artists are really very similar to the new ae, so if you hate the new ae, you might still like them. or you might hate them all. who knows? just be aware that when a merzbow release says "EXTREME NOISE" on it, they're not exaggerating.... matt
