that's the businessman answer. I think the real answer is that cassettes tap into a deep nostalgia for people of a certain age and it's a bit of an ironic snub to hi-fi audiophile/vinyl culture, celebrating the limitations of the format.  this is not a apologist's defense of the trend (I have not purchased a real tape since maybe the Wu-Tang Forever double-pack in '97), just a casual observation.
