On the recent Lali Puna thread, and on the
recommendation of the Suction crew, and on
the basis that the other five Morr Music releases
are excellent, and since it was available on CD
(so much better than vinyl for non-club music),
I picked up Lali Puna's "Tridecoder" CD on Morr
Music (also Darla and Hausmusik - how many labels
does it take to release a record!?) and I have to
say I was very pleasantly surprised. The "this is how
good journalists make Stereolab sound" comment is
right on target. The vocals, instead of turning it into a
ballad or a pop anthem or a rock song (blech) add this
really nice, hypnotic yet warm touch. The music itself
is mellow, downtempo stuff that sounds like a more
introspective and developed Mouse on Mars or a poppier
record in the A-Musik vein. Should appeal to both the
indie rock and electronic crowd, and after the B. Fleischmann
releases my favorite record on Morr Music - this label is
on a roll, can't wait to see what they'll do next.
