As a friend of OST, I would just like to point a few things out about your
post Docktor barnes. Firstly Diskono never paid Chris any money for the
track that you are refering to. The fact that you A) Never paid him for the
track and never paid him any royalties is completely out of order and B)
the fact that you are going to release it again, and still have made no
effort to pay him any money is actually very fucking shameful. If you
intend to re-release this track on _any_ complilation you had better ask A)
Chris's permission and B) Make some finanical contribution towards its use
on your complition to him.
The reason I write this post is that I know many musicians that are being
ripped off left right and centre by Labels that claim to be so 'into' the
music that they put out. I cannot begin to express my anger at Labels like
diskono. There is a lot of money to be made putting records out. Especially
now that the whole 'IDM' scene has kicked off in the USA. Unfortunatly in
my experince (I have worked for labels and for managers and for club
promoters) many of the people who control the 'scene' are total crooks.
Artists like OST get ripped off left right and centre. 'Oh come play at our
gig' promoters say, the artists plays and at the end of the night the
promoters give the artists a bullshit excuse and don't pay them, 'Oh put a
record out on our label' says the record label. The record goes out and
sells 100's put the artist only gets £50 and never sees any royalites. I am
sick and tired of seeing the way in which hard working talented people get
ripped off in this 'scene', so hence this post. So when labels like Diskono
have the cheek to put out tracks that they haven't paid the artist for and
still make money out of makes me sick.
Very upset missyx
