Just to be the anal sample guy, I believe the earliest use of THX sample dates to Front 242, with their album Geography circa 1982/83. They use the 'What's wrong?' sample. Actually been digging up my old front 242 albums and giving them a spin. I love'em. Since my 'entrance' into IDM few years back, I now listen to records like Geography and Back Catalog in a whole new light. If I didn't know any beter I would having a hard time differentiating between this old stuff and some of the Skam and Rephlex releases recently... ah the 80's...
