mouse on mars - cache coeur naif
thrill jockey (thrill 043)
four tracks of weird wonderful music from my favorite rodents. this
time they've teamed up with stereolab chanteuse laetitia sadier, and
the results are the usual high quality MoM wackiness with a little bit
of accessibility provided in the vocal department.
the title track is a cute little ditty with maybe just a little too
much singing for my tastes. but it's catchy and bouncy nonetheless.
"schnick-schnack" is a more percolating kinda percussive thing, almost
housey in a weird mutated german expressionist way, with a happy go
lucky vocal part. "lazergum" has a cardboard electro beat and some
grunchy synths with filtered french vox. "glim" closes out the EP
with some typical MoM psychedelic action.
the bottom line is, mouse on mars definitely cut their own swath
through the muddle of electronic music. they are resolutely their own
thing, no matter what else happens.
for a taste of this EP, check out my new RealAudio archive hiding out
at
http://sticky.bud.com/ i've put up the track "lazergum".
