so you don't think there's a difference between 'in the charts' and chart fodder? maybe not! i liked the second half of dead cities but i think it's their worst LP. and i thought the explosive single was execrable, so at least it supports my theory to me. but there is a difference between being chart fodder and simply having something in the charts, surely? great records get in the charts, yes - 'in your hearts not the charts' is a pompous statement for sure. 808 state made great records that got in the top 10, and aphex and fsol have been there before. but 808 state fell to the wayside, and fsol might do the same thing if they wander down this hard-breakbeat industro-plop path. aphex hit back though, with mind-blowing originality that no commercial radio station this side of venus would ever play, and he always remembers to take the piss in interviews, so that nasty invention called the top 40 isn't always the kiss of death. hopefully!
