What makes good "Electronica" is quite besides the point, isn't it ? What sells and what is likely to "save the record industry". That is what the article was about, not what you and I happen to think is good music. God knows the stuff I buy isn't going to buy any record exec a limo. That's the only reason I suggest you cut the guy some slack. He wasn't repeat WAS NOT attempting to introduce anybody to anything culturally significant (in our eyes and ears). He was writing about the MTV Amp show having triggered a massive industry frenzy and basically what a joke that was. He was writing about BIG business.

That's okay, I still haven't even heard the Macarena or the Spice Girls. Didn't even know who they were until it was a major part of US culture.

IDM ? excuse me ? C'mon man, the article WASN'T ABOUT OUR FAVORITE MUSIC. It was about Mall Shit, big sellers etc. Next years Lollapalooza. The term electronica under the current media fascination refers to anybody with a bunch of electronics and a kind of DJ heritage. ie. yes Daft Punk is electronica under that definition. Sorry, Electronica used to mean kind of pure electronic (art) music that wasn't neccessarily for dancing. I liked that definition myself, but now the word has gone elsewhere and there ain't shit we can do about it. (and why should we care ?) Ok, now I'll shut up :) Enjoy the real music y'all.
