Ironically, thanks to the Audio Home Recording Act, owners of DATs and other digital recording devices who make digital copies of copyrighted material for private use are exempted from copyright infringement liability (in return for this, record labels get royalties for every DAT or other digital recording device) sold. Do plain old analog recording devices (with arguably shittier fidelity) get this protection? Nope. wierd innit? khannan suntharam kxs28972@bayou.uh.edu
