Before I say any more, I must point out that I'm not into acid jazz myself,
but I can handle some of the better stuff in moderation...
My best friend is heavily into acid jazz, and very few (if any) of his
records seem to be made up of sampled loops - real acid jazz (on labels like
Acid Jazz and Talkin' Loud) is actually pretty vocal-led and funky. The kinds of
records which use loops of old records tend to be more in the trip-hop vein. You
won't see bands like Corduroy, Marden Hill and JTQ using samplers, they are very
talented at what they do...
Also, this isn't really much to do with IDM is it? Sorry for prolonging an
irrelevant debate, but my friend has been reading some of the postings and
getting quite angry. If you want to slag off a musical genre, there are more
worthy candidates than this...
