Pentatonik are somewhere in between the ambient dub stuff (HIA, Banco deGaya et al) and (for lack of a better term) "noisier" stuff (Autechre, Aphex Twin, Black Dog, B-12). They do use a beat in much of their work (and some of the songs on the album could almost be considered trance), though they definitely would not fill up the dance floor of a disco I'm not big on the "noisy" stuff myself, but I like this CD. Overall i'd say it's not quite dub, not quite ambient, not quite the "noisier" stuff (which I can't quite consider to be "intelligent dance music" since you can't dance to this stuff). How's that for a description? :) The only other stuff that I'm familiar with is stuff that appears on compilations every once and a while (Tower Records, One AD, the Higher Intelligence Agency remix ep). -- Though the store where I bought it said they have put out other albums and 12" singles. ----- niemitz@cats.ucsc.edu On now: The Infinite Wheel
