I personally have always told my friends that IDM stands for inteligent dance music. This opens it up to what I think it is and moves a listenner into an easier position when defining it. The word inteligent not only suggests that you cannot always dance to it but it opens the classification to more types of music thus propelling the genre into the next step. For example, why can't a mashup be idm? How about photec? Is si-begg idm? I say yes to all (well, on a track by track level) Stop being purists to idm being a production technique. It is a classification of sound. Music is wonderful let's discuss how it is moving forwards from ... not how it is moving away from ... Oh, and to be fair to the list as a whole, it does not live in the past and that is why we are still here, to learn more from each other and forward ourselves. </Rant> Benjamin ------- On 9 Jul 2008, at 03:31, "Sim David" <pmxds@nottingham.ac.uk> wrote:
