Here's what's new in my shopping bag:
1) Record of the month goes to Goldie : "Timeless" beautiful and absorbing jungle.
First track is a wopping 21 minute dreamy jungle overdrive. And I thought only
"ambient" tracks could be that long. The rest of the album is just as good. I am
trying to figure out how you get those fast beats and filter them so heavily. There
is one track that on headphones is just killer, the bass and beats keep panning
and going really crazy.
2) Spring Heel Jack: I forget the title (I don't have any of the discs with me), but
this is really good. There is not stopping the jungle influence I guess.
3) The new Bandulu ep: just wished the tracks were longer, can't wait for the
full length. These guys are just masters at dubbed out fast beats.
4) Mouse on Mars' new one: Haven't had much time to listen to it very long but
first few tracks are very good. Some thoughts later on.
5) Cool Breeze : Assimilation. I am not sure if this is a compilation or there
is a entity called Cool Breeze. The music is very trip-hop laid back beats with
cool vocals. The lyrics are all sort of political, urban plights and such. The
music doesn't stray much from the standard trip-hop patterns. Makes for nice late
night listening.
6) Fluke's new one: The vocoder stuff throws you off a bit but after a few listens
this ablum really grows on you. There are a couple of heavy instrumental tracks with
the deep guitar riffs and wonderful bass.
