yes, i did notice and i was pretty surprised. i used to talk to naut once in a while and the last that i had heard was that he was working with some other bay area artists to create an indie label. for those of you who don't know, naut humon was/is "rhythm & noise", a music/ video/performance art collective that started in the late 60's. he is loosely associated with survival research laboratories and comfort control systems, and HE BLOWS MY FU**ING MIND!!!! naut did some recordings along with z'ev in the mid 80's on ralph records, the two main ones with which i'm familiar being "contents under notice" and the absolutely ultimate sound architecture compilation/acid trip screamfest called "chasm's accord". naut had a synclavier and a whole bunch of other stuff and he was creating positively the most unspeakably massive sound experiences/ architectures (for want of a better word) that i have ever heard. i don't mean to be hyperbolic, but chasm's accord makes most of the ambient/dance/ trippy stuff discussed on this list look completely lame-ass and sickly. IF YOU EVER EVER EVER GET A CHANCE TO PURCHASE "CHASM'S ACCORD", DON'T PASS IT UP. seriously. if you are on this list, then i'm sure that you'll always treasure this record. btw... naut and company did some shows in tokyo, and they set up a venue in which there were walls over ten feet high of speaker cabinets. these walls surrounded the audience in 360 degrees, and then they patched the sound output through a piece of software which allowed programmable sound control. in this manner they made the sound revolve around the audience several times per second at deafening levels, and apparently there were people vomiting from the disorientation. not for the faint of heart.... also, just one last little anecdote... my roommate and i set up our dorm room in 1987 to have heavy sound equipment, and then we dosed ourselves and some friends and sat in the dark playing "chasm's accord". people kept having to leave the room from getting so freaked out. otherworldly!!! jwgrote@indiana.edu --------------------- way up in my big black thing (my total disorientator) way out in my big black thing (my superconductive number cruncher) thirty thousand feet above the earth, it's a beautiful thing
