When I bought the CD, the same store had several copies of the LP as well.

Is it "better" or is it "different"? You be the judge (not in running order):

Now, to put it bluntly, I just don't get this at all. They take off 5 tracks
(not 7, as was originally quoted) from the LP and put back 3 new ones on the
CD. !$@^&$*&@$^@&! I really don't appreciate having to buy a CD with 12
tracks I already own in order to get 3 new ones; this is not my idea of value
for money.
What I would have preferred to see would have been a double CD with the extra
tracks from the Phi*1700 12" appended:

Of course, the fact that the Phi*1700 (u/v) single came out on R&S might have
precluded this. But no matter what, and I may be an old stick in the mud here,
but I think that if you're paying CD premium prices you deserve extra material
compared to an LP, not alternative material that forces you to buy the same
thing essentially twice.
Perhaps Grant would say that all of the album wouldn't fit on a single CD.
My answer to that would probably be "Dropping 5 and adding 3 makes dropping
2, so why not just drop 1 or 2 tracks from the album and leave it at that?".
For example, Phi*1700 (u/v) could have been dropped since it's readily
available on the single. Better yet, drop "Vibes" because it's this
execrable piece of ersatz Jazz that is the only black mark on an otherwise
masterful work of perfection ...
Old Timers "Where have I heard this before?" mu-Ziq quiz:
Why does track 3 ("Burnt Sienna") remind me of the instrumental break from
The Doors' "Love Her Madly", if the latter had every other note removed?!?
Weird ...
