I agree we should consider renaming the list, but I have my qualms about edm.
quoted 1 line "electronic" is a little more cut and dry, and isn't as
>"electronic" is a little more cut and dry, and isn't as
And much too broad, IMO. Gabber and breaks are electronic dance music,
aren't they? Why not just reroute all discussion from this list back to
alt.music.techno then?
quoted 2 lines I think the discussion would become more broad

And we disagree as to whether this would be a benefit. If you ask me, the list
is too noisy as it is.
quoted 2 lines I, for one, hope that the discussion remains diverse and
>I, for one, hope that the discussion remains diverse and

Diversity and variety is one thing, losing any concept of what this list
is about and why it was created is entirely another.
quoted 2 lines I will continue to talk about Bolland, Eat Static, Spooky,

I have no argument with discussion of any of these artists on IDM.
My suggestion for a new name: armchair-techno. The original mission of
the list would be retained (and implied more clearly), and a side benefit
would be that questions that just about all of us agree are off-topic
(turntable cartridges, upcoming Toronto raves, etc.) would be less likely
to pop up. Comments?
