If you're interested in hearing some intelligent dance music with a real heavy guitar sound, check out Mindwarp. They only have 2 eps out, Mindwarp One, and Mindwarp Too. They're on the Stress label. I'll admit, this puts more stress on the "dance" part of idm, but listen to Mindwarp Too on a bassy system and I think you'll agree that they make a pretty intelligent use of bass. I like the way they pan the toms between left-right-middle, etc.; it adds a lot of variety. They also tend to use fairly unconventional instruments (guitar, for example). Check them out if you have a chance. Luke

Mindwarp is not real guitar, it's lame sounding synth guitar. I have "Too" and I am pretty disappointed with it. It has a nice build up and climax in the early part of the song but then nothing really interesting happens afterwards. I once heard a record in a club that sounded like a Van Halen solo with a typical house beat & bass underneath it. Never did find out what it was, but I liked it and it rocked the floor. /jon

It was sampled from the last few seconds of "Eruption" off of Van Halen's self-titled album. Then they take a couple of Eddie Van Halen's guitar chords and play a new melody with them. Don't know what the new song is called... but I have it on a couple of San Fran DJ mix tapes. Don donpierr@netcom.com

RE>>Guitars -Reply sorry about the confusion there don, but it's very simple. there are two mixes of Two Fatt Guitars, pretty radically different. the funky one is on Twitch CD 8. the van halen-y one isn't. both mixes are on DJ Garth's mix CD "no rest for the wicked" though. /jon
