Just finshed thumbing thru this months Wire and saw an ad for a Sylvian and Fripp EP called "Darshaan". It has FSOL and Grid remixes. Release date was back in December. Does anyone have this or have heard it? Is it worth getting? On a different subject, I was wondering what to expect off Youth's new label. It is mildly interesting. The FSOL remix is about the most unspectacular remix they have done. Nothing like the Curve remixgodliness.

If you're into the Fripp/Sylvian release (which I am) the EP is pretty worthwhile, though it doesn't add a great deal to what is already on the album. The Grid mix adds a kind of eerie ambience to the introduction, with Sylvian's voice extricated as an overlay, but then breaks quickly to a funky rendition of the tune that somehow doesn't sounds like a Fripp/Sylvian record anymore. This is alright, but it's not the side I listen to that often. The FSOL remix is my preference, which extends the introduction and exit of the record with a more swirly/drifty sound that adds a kind of grandiose sweep to the tune, while still sounding like Fripp and Sylvian. __________________________________________________________________________ _____ \___/\ Phil / / / / A squid eating dough in a polyethylene bag / / is fast and bulbous / /___. got me? \/_____\ __________________________________________________________________________

It's about 45 minutes, which I guess explains why it was priced at $13.99 in a store that usually prices CD-singles at 9.99. It's not as breathtaking as FSOL's Curve remix, but still worth picking up. Even thr original is nice. Definitely bodes well for the Fripp/Orb collaboration to come. Brian

Sylvian and Fripp probably provided some pretty damn good material to remix in the first place :-) David Sylvian has some older stuff that would make good ambient remix-food... Brilliant Trees comes to mind.
