FAX Ambient Compilation 3 completely turned me off of Namlook's solo material. It was so simplistic in a bad way that I don't want to risk buying anything else of his without listening to it first. His collaborations I like (The Putney, The Fires of Ork, Silence) but I'm wary of the half-dozen solo CD's with minimal packaging that have turned up in a local store recently... maybe Will-E can elaborate? I've seen it too. It's kind of weird as I've never seen a FAX release in just a plain plastic sleeve... no jewel case, no booklet. Then again, the catalog number on this one is unlike any other FAX catalog number. All I know is that it is a series of four CDs, one for every season.

Actually, the ambient compilations are compiled from the dance 12"s that usually include an extra ambient track. I have compilations 2 and 4 which consist of tracks by Hearts of Space (Pascal FEOS & Pete), Sequential (Pete and DJ Criss), Escape (aka Silence, Dr. Atmo & Pete), Sextant (DJ Hubee & Pete). etc. although the majority of the tracks are by Pete on his own in his many guises (4Voice, Syn, Air, etc.).

I must agree with you. Ambient comp 2 is very minimalistic and turned me off. I haven't heard Ambient comp 3 but 4 redeems itself much more, not totally but it's a lot more interesting. It doesn't sound all the same for lack of a better description.

Agreed again! I liked the tribal sound in Silence and realized that was Dr. Atmo's influence. I should have "IF" (Dr. Atmo & Deep Space Network) quite soon which I expect is in the same vein. Deep Space Network do shows at XS in Frankfurt and recently had live percussion & digeridoo players. Dr. Atmo has also worked with Ramin (Ramin has a track on In Order To Dance 4) under the name Sad World. I'm looking forward to Dr. Atmo's collaboration with Oliver Lieb (Spicelab/Harthouse) for "Music to Films: Kooyanisquatsi" Looks like Pete may be starting to realize as Air 2 (solo) features "live recorded percussion in conjunction with enviornmental sounds to give this CD a more human touch." I found Air 1 to be rather cold even with the acoustic instruments and boring too actually. I've decided to stick with to the triangle sublabel which Pete has nothing do with and being careful with the world sublabel. I've entirely given up on the main FAX label. I never really liked it that much anyway. I may maintain the discography but only so I can figure out what's good on this eclectic and esoteric set of labels. I wonder what "From Within," the collaboration between Ritchie Hawtin and Pete will be like.
