what do you mean by this? hasn't this been out domestically for a while? I've seen an aphex twin single at my local record store on the shelf for at least a month now. It's packaged in one of those annoying eco jewel cases and i'm pretty sure it's the On single. Am I missing something, have something confused, or am I just an idiot? I don't think my dinky local college record store would be cool enough to have a promo on the shelf. not that any of this matters. ___ (:)====/__/\=(:)(:)============================(:)====================(:) |\| _\_ \ \|\||=| Tai Nguyen |\| email address: |=| |=| /__/\_\ \=||\| Cornell University |=| thn1@cornell.edu |\| |\| / /\ __/\|(:)============================(:)====================(:) |=|/ / /\ \ |=||=| "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damn lies, |=| |\/__/ \_\/ |\||\| and statistics." |\| |=\__\/\ \ |=||=| - Mark Twain |=| (:)==\__\/===(:)(:)===================================================(:)

Presumably this is the import. You can always tell by those annoying eco-jewel cases. /-oOOo------------oOOo-\ --------------------------/------------------------\-------------------------- "the only constant / Harvey D. The UK version (two discs, 8 tracks) on Warp is packaged in a set of clear, plastic slimline jewel boxes. The US version (one disc, 4 tracks) on Sire is packaged in a nightmarish abomination of cardboard and soft plastic (i.e. not a jewelbox). For the US buyer, then, the purchasing table stacks up as shown: Pro Con --- --- Warp vers. 8 tracks Total cost $16-$20 (relatively) nice packaging Some tracks are filler-esque Only found at specialty shops Sire vers. Total cost $4-$7 Cheesy crap packaging Any ol' mall store 4 tracks Of course that was silly, but I think my vitamins are kicking in... | Dave Walker, Detroit Art Services (DAS) | | | | marmoset@msen.com "but it took so long to bake it..." |

Two discs? Eight tracks? Hmm. I've seen 2 versions (imports): "On" with three other tracks (don't remember)... small aphex logo; and the disc I have: "On" remixes (d-scape, reload, u-ziq, 28 mix) with the big aphex logo. Were, by chance, these 2 discs packaged together originally, and separated by our ignorant Houston record stores? Or were they supposed to be separated? Geez! Are Houston Record stores ripping everyone off by selling them separately? This is gonna be a big issue if so because I'm sick of the ignorance in this town! Soundwaves record stores still think Black Dog Productions is an Aphex Twin side project...and they can't even spell Polygon Window right. Well, they do have discs which other stores don't -- imports like Rising High and Pete Namlook stuff...but at WAY HIGH prices. 'nuff rambling. Here are some IDM disc purchases I have made recently: sun electric - "kitchen" [global - RS 933 CD] (not opened yet) ADSR - "accelerated emotions" [cargo/fspCD 001] (not opened) Trance Odyssey - various [C&S/micmac] (keoki & high lonesome sound sys., tetsu inoue tracks are the best, joey beltram, others) The Quantum Leap! a serious selection of German Trance & Dance - various [Mondial media-ware] tracks by "Non Eric" are the only good ones. Trancesylvania 2 - various [23 CD003] double-CD. First disk is 140bpm 4onTheFloor, awesome trancedance...Second is various styles. Disc one is the epitome of what I like to spin and create. underworld - "dubnobasswithmyheadman" [junior boys own cd1] (progressive with little bit of funky lyrics...almost industrial style... strange how I was thinking of writing a song myself with Japanese lyrics, then the last track played and there are samples from the anime flick _Akira_! Freaked me out. So, Darren, what exactly is that girl saying? "Watashi..." "anatawa..." something H.I.A. - "colourform" [beyond/rbadcd5] Sheer bliss! Ultra trip the whole way through the disc! Always a filtered sound (analog-like mostly) so it's MIGHTY ORGANIC! bwops&bloops&bleeps structured like crystalizations...utter perfection! Just how High are these guys? Reload - "A collection of short stories" [infonet] (not opened yet) Autechre - "incunabula" [warp/tvt 7210-2] (not opened) Vapour Space - "Grav.ARch of 10: magnetic gravity arc suite" [ffrr/+8] Variations on a theme. I want the newest 12 tracker...what'sit? Irresistible Force - The Underground EP [Instinct/Rising High] HEY! Just noticed Taylor Deupree's name on it..."additional assistance" on design...pretty cool. :) The disc is an oldie but goodie. How is "Flying High"? and the cookie: Namlook - "Seasons Greetings =Winter=" [fax] No booklet, no back track printing... did Soundwaves take it out?? Just a bloo disc with a silhouette picture of a guy and handwriting, "Seasons Greetings/ =Winter= / Sincerely Pete Namlook". This is ULTRA AMBIENCE.... Mike Brown! You got this one? It's a bit like Eno's ambient/atmo- spheric stuff, but with brighter synths. Almost sounds like computer perpetuated music. Some of these disc may be a few months old, I know. I just got some and haven't listen to them yet....just wanted to post them, to see what others think. I was clued in on a lot of this stuff through the January 22 issue of Melody Maker's BIG BANG dance section...it has an A-Z guide on club/dance DJs/artists/producers/labels/etc. Cool 4-page section regular in MM now called "Orbit" I believe...mostly European stuff, but where do you think imports come from! :) OK, that's enough notes from me for one night....3 a.m. eternal -djkc

It's called 'Themes from Vapourspace' and it's actually a one-tracker. Some idiot decided to master it with all the songs together. I have a feeling I'll love Vapourspace's next album, but as for this one, for the most part it doesn't live up to the promise of "Gravitational Arch."

'Flying High' is much better than the stuff on 'Underground,' good as it is. Also check out Dreamfish, a collaboration between Morris and Pete Namlook, on Rising High/FAX. C. -- (Chris.Hilker) cspot@netcom.com

And now for a different opinion... With reservations due to the odd (non)tracking, "Themes From Vapourspace" is probably my favorite electronic album for at least the past year. Gage proves that truly amazing sounds can still be wrung out of stock equipment -- even the 909/303 based "Cosmic Dance of Shiva" sounds fresh. "Paradox of Time Dilation" is gorgeous, and for pure headphuq sonics the title track can't be beaten. BTW, Vapourspace is apparently playing some live dates, though I'm not sure that its a full-fledged tour -- he'll be in Pontiac (north of Detroit) on the 18th, but this is Plus 8's backyard so maybe it's just a one-off. | Dave Walker, Detroit Art Services (DAS) | | "I don't read, I just guess" | | marmoset@msen.com -Happy Mondays, "Wrote For Luck" |

The track we put it in was Lemon Interupt-DIRTY.(AT the very end) Darren.....
