Inch-Time album, also on Static Caravan (but only available to download when I last checked their shop) is really quite nice, in a laptop folk-y kinda way, but with greater use of strings, bells, gongs and timpani. The man is a doctor by day apparently (where does he find the time you'd wonder...) The Tunng album is the bizz alright ; the Beta Band meets the Books kinda thing, I love it. The single The Maypole Song, is really really weird, and may or may not be a cover of a song from the Wicker Man movie ? Perhaps somebody could verify this... Greg Davis and Sebastian Roux's Paquet Surprise is similar to the Tim Hecker/Fennesz way with melody and noise, but is charmingly blissful. Also digging Ricardo Villalobos' new release Achso on Cadenza - he is one of a few producers whose work is truly worthy of the term "intelligent dance music". Anybody else heard any of this guy Nathan Fakes stuff ? I've only got Dinamo, released on Traum in 2005, but this too is a beautifully constructed piece of math house par excellence. Yes!!!! When I were a lad, whenever anyone got a record they liked, they'd stick some sort of micro-review on idm-l to let other people know and spread the love. These days the first you hear about it is when they sell it on ebay. I don't know why this has happened but it's really annoying - I got a lot of my favorite records after people around here recommended them. Not really IDM (although there are some glitches in there) but the Tunng album rocks, and the new EP with the Bloc Party cover rocks even more. Yep. I've heard 'Outhouse' 12", which is a trip. Takes BoC-style detuned synths for a trip on a self-consciously banging tech-house Doofdoof-fest. Tartan! [SNIP] I don't think he will ever top Dinamo. I went to see him live a couple of weeks back and while it was good, alot of the stuff wasn't a patch on Dinamo. He sounds alot like M83 to me.
