Terry, singing and playing piano, will be joined by Portland’s own Kirana West Voices and the Blessings, Omens, Spells and Mojos Band in a benefit concert for the Oregon Food Bank and a celebration of the esteemed composer’s 70th birthday. The program will include traditional North Indian classical music, plus two new original works for piano, voices and instruments, including the world premiere of a new work in progress, tentatively titled - Omen #1. Terry is listed in the London Times as "one of the 1000 makers of the 20th Century." The Oregonian credited In C, Terry’s original minimalist masterpiece, with being one of the ten most influential compositions of the 20th century. While Terry has made regular visits to Portland to teach and perform the classical music of North India, this is only the second Portland performance of his own music since 1977, when he performed at the legendary PCVA (Portland Center for the Visual Arts). Don’t miss this unique occasion to listen to one of the giants of modern musical creativity, celebrating his 70th birthday in a benefit for those less fortunate than we. Terry Riley and friends would like to thank the following sponsors for their generous support of this event: Pacific Northwest College of Art Elizabeth Leach Gallery Oregon Food Bank Sherman Clay/Moe’s Pianos # # #
