So, tell me, is the IDM mailing list archived somewhere in a searchable web format? Tell me how easy it is to search all the e-mails without a searchable web format while you're at it. It appears (amazingly) the admin/Hyperreal do not have a searchable archive... pity. It makes it infinitely easier to use that way. They should switch to Mailman if they're not using it already. Personally I still enjoy mailing lists (we're a dying breed, I'm afraid) but I think PHP (or whatever floats your boat, Python, etc.) based web forums are a lot easier to manage, search and organize (and moderate). Mailing lists still hold a special place in my heart... but we're comparing apples to oranges here. A mailing list != online store. You might disagree, but most people would rather use a searchable web store than have to banter back and forth via e-mail to order. If e-mail stores were a popular format why then is NO ONE else using them? You don't see Amazon (etc.) using that format... -- Mr. Tangent [the binary police] www.mrtangent.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I should have said "improperly veiled bitching" - excuse me. At any rate, it seems like the topic has been exhausted. That's never stopped you before, so it probably won't now. Actually, I'd hardly call you complaining about someone else's (successful and efficient) business model "discussion." Complaining about a lack of searchable archives for this list when said searchable archives had been mentioned as recently as yesterday doesn't rate, either. obIDM: New Phthalocyanine is pretty crazy stuff. Not as dense as 25 Tracks Fer 1 Track, which was surprising. Still plenty of sounds going on, but with a little bit more to grab onto. Yeah right, like the list doesn't live in the past enough as it is. So you think archiving is a bad thing? What if you're wanting to go back to find a post about an album you're looking for? Or what if you want to find someone who no longer posts and you can't find their name? It seems to me that a searchable archive is a great idea. -- Mr. Tangent [the binary police] www.mrtangent.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Maybe this isn't what you're looking for, but Shimone posted this reply to your original question some time ago: <snip> Here -> http://elists.resynthesize.com/ Shimone/Justes http://www.staticbeats.com Electronic Music > Digital Culture --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
