it's back! LONDON HEADPHONES FESTIVAL 2004 placard: headphone concerts for headphone people state51 extension #3 14 hours, 39 acts. listen. don't listen. 17 July, state51 factory, 12pm-2am The London Headphones Festival returns ... 14 hours of headphones-only performances from the cream of UK underground electronica and beyond. Last year over 500 people packed into the state51 factory space to experience a day of headphonics. Think of a festival in reverse. Forget about background chatter: for once, it's a chance for some focused listening. All performances are heard only through headphones, artists play 20 minute sets and the whole thing is streamed to listening rooms around the world. Lining up in the state51 warheouse space are 2004 Ars Electronica-winners Janek Schaefer and Leafcutter John, alongside Main, David Toop & Max Eastley, dDamage, Hot Chip, Holkham, Antenna Farm, Noun, John Chantler, Adem Ilhan/8 Hours, Paul Hood, Cylens, Discom, The Sound Of Squaljax & Farbulous, Jonathan Coleclough, sAnso-xtro, eg0 + e/n, Heller, Dallas Simpson vs Viv Corringham, Michael Rodgers vs Romuald Wadych, Nada, Nebogeo, Table, Claire Hope, 87 Central, CK Dexter Haven, Fisk Industries, Dual vs Murmer, A.M.P. Studio, Duncan Whitley, Smack Miranda, Karina ESP, Ed Bennett vs Cormac Heron, Yellow6, Rashamon, Same Actor, Pez Orchestra, Recon vs Thorsten Sideb0ard, Emanuela De Angelis and Akira The Don. Also on display will be video, photography and installation work by Steinbrüchel/Brusca, Semiconductor Films, Jayrope, Gr., iMax and others tbc. The Festival is organised by a network of London-based promoters, labels and artists: highpoint lowlife records, coombe records, idoia, murmer, [no.signal], slub, midRange, state51 and the slow sound system. Ok, so I've been wrestling with this sentence for the last 1/2 hour, and I still have pages and pages to go...can anyone give me a hand translating this? "Schönberg faßt Musik als eine diskursiv verlaufende, auf die Formulierung eines Denkresultats zulaufende Sprache auf." I just can't figure out how 'verlaufende' and 'zulaufende' work in this sentence... thanks, and sorry for the OT! To keep things on topic, are there any Chicago-ites who wanna tell me what's going on IDM/Techno-wise in Chi-town? I'll be there this fall... Sprache auf." ---> SB conceives music as language. (language, _not_ speech) 2) "Musik als eine >diskursiv verlaufende< Sprache" -> means something like >beeing executed discursively< (that's what it makes it language) 3) "...auf die Formulierung eines Denkresultats zulaufende Sprache..." i've never read or heard "zulaufen" beeing used in modern german. basically this part means the same as (2) -> "...oriented to phrase a result of thinking..." (again: that's what it makes it language) the problem now is that my english really sucks but maybe that was at least a little helpful. anyway, take (1) as the translation, forget about the rest... sven.
